The Untenables is a sprawling, genre-blending multimedia franchise. Originating in 1981 with a line of action figures, it grew to include tie-in comics, animated series, feature films, video games and more. Despite its unprecedented success and popularity, the franchise is notable for its lack of a unifying theme or "gimmick", with various waves of the original toyline dabbling in sword and sorcery, military, horror, literary, religious, and countless other themes.
Concept and creation
The Untenables was the brainchild of Bunko Toys executive Hayden Bunko III, whose now-famous "elevator pitch" for the line was, "Fuck it, just make them a buncha guys, I don't even give a shit."
