Terrence "Terry" Marigold is a retired Australian professional wrestler, best known for portraying the Santa Claus-inspired character "Big Jolly" Chris Crimbo in the EWA from 1992-1998. Known for his long, silky white hair, rugged beard, red velvet pannies and indecipherable Australian accent, Crimbo is regarded as one of the greatest and most influential Christmas wrestlers of all time.
Early years
Crimbo is a second generation wrestler, being the son of Australian legend Dink Marigold. He debuted as Bulk Bogan on his 18th birthday and quickly built a reputation for himself on the Australian independent scene. He formed a successful tag team with Dingo Dango, with the duo capturing the New South Wales Wombatweight championships on two occasions.
Chris Crimbo character
The Chris Crimbo character was the brainchild of EWA promoter Vince McMahonalogue, who was looking for a way to boost sluggish ticket sales in the holiday season. McMahonalogue supposedly believed that "Santa Claus" was copyrighted, and that his second choice, "Father Christmas", sounded too ethnic. When he was shown footage of Bulk Bogan in action, McMahonalogue offered the role to him on the spot.
Chris Crimbo debuted at EWA WassailMania III in 1992, defeating Jack Bicep in short order. After the match, Crimbo savagely beat his opponent with a sack of coal, immediately cementing his status as a major player for years to come, at least between the months of November and January.
Indeed, Chris Chrimbo's unusual longevity may be linked to his seasonal nature; whereas most wrestlers must keep their characters fresh to avoid overexposure, Crimbo would simply disappear for 3/4 of the year.
Championships and accomplishments
Chris Crimbo is a three time EWA World Mustardweight Champion, as well as winning the inaugural TinselTussle battle royal in 1995.
